Rachel is the Australian Greens spokesperson on ageing, family and community services, mental health and Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander issues. She is co-deputy leader, Whip and Chair of the Senate Community Affairs References. Rachel’s position as chair of the Senate Community Affairs References Committee has enabled her to bring light to landmark issues such as; aged care, suicide prevention, hearing health, income inequality, forced adoptions and out of home care.

Senator Rachel Siewert has been in Parliament for over 12 years, making her the most experienced MP of the Australian Greens.

In 2016, Senator Siewert secured support for an inquiry into the future of Australia’s aged care sector workforce and worked with the sector to pressure the government to reassess the ACFI cuts.

She is deeply interested in issues related to older Australians.
